I'm Katie Clark, and I'm running for the Altadena Library District Board of Trustees.

The Altadena Library needs Trustees worthy of the name.

I'm running because I believe we need to restore public trust in our public library, and because we need elected Board members who will take their responsibilities seriously. Altadena is a unique and evolving community, and the Library deserves outstanding guidance, vision, and leadership.

We need public servants who will set a course for the Library's future, and put the focus back on providing outstanding services and programming to Altadena.

I am committed to working tirelessly for my neighbors. I am a small business owner, an artist, an educator, and a lifelong learner. My life and the pursuit of my dreams have been made possible only because of public schools, public libraries, universities, and museums, so I know how profoundly they matter.

Altadena deserves Library Trustees who will go above and beyond, who will actively and creatively promote the Library, who will develop systems to ensure a better and more sustainable future, who will re-earn the confidence of the community, and who will listen and respond to the needs of this town.

This is an election about the future of Altadena. Let's build it together.

What's happening?

suing the district

The Altadena Library District Board of Trustees is getting sued. The DA's office is watching carefully. This is costing the District — and Altadena taxpayers — a lot of money. That's money that isn't going to books, programming, or community outreach. Why?

multimillion dollar budget at stake

The Board of Trustees is responsible for overseeing the Library District's substantial budget, as well as for strategic planning. Their plan runs out in 2018, and there's no plan for the future. How can we guarantee the future of our Library without any idea of how we'll get there?

ALTADENA residents impacted

The Altadena Library — both at the Main Library and the Bob Lucas Branch — exists to serve the community, but not everyone is equally served. How can the Library deliver better, more equitable service and programming to ALL of Altadena?

This election matters for everyone in Altadena. Whether you have kids or not, whether you borrow books or not, whether you're a renter or a homeowner...

What happens with the Library impacts all of us.

On libraries:

[Libraries are] the most democratic of institutions because no one – but no one at all – can tell you what to read, and when, and how.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Helping the Library is bigger than just one election. Maybe you can help as a literacy tutor, with kids' programs, or with book sales. You can also join a support organization, like the Friends of the Library or the Library Foundation.
